  • Location: 34 Old Highway 84 Directions to Sweet Auburn: From Natchez going north on Highway 61 go past the Highway 84/98 turn off and Tractor Supply. Go past Washington United Methodist Church. Go about .1 mile past the post office and take the first right onto old Highway 84 #1. Go .2 miles. Auburn is on the right directly across from the Washington Baptist Church. Traveling south on Highway 61 toward Natchez go .4 miles past Saint Catherine Creek and turn left on Old Highway 84 #1. There is no landmark for this turn. If you go past Morgantown Road or Jefferson College Road you have gone too far. Make a U-turn and follow the Previous directions past Washington United Methodist Church.

SWEET AUBURN c. 1833

Dr. John Wesley Monette, the original owner of the home, is renowned for his advocacy in preventing the spread of Yellow Fever through quarantine. Sweet Auburn boasts original millwork, including columns, archways, window casings, mantels, and door frames produced in Cincinnati and shipped down the Mississippi River.

  • Monette’s doctor’s office and library sit separately on the left and right of Sweet Auburn connected by an original red brick walkway.
  • Original shelving and mantels still hang in the library and doctor’s office.
  • The brick used for the home was made on the property.
  • Current owners were able to reconstruct the original appearance of Sweet Auburn using historic photographs.
