FALL PILGRIMAGE: SWEET AUBURN c. 1833
Dr. John Wesley Monette, the original owner of the home, is renowned for his advocacy in preventing the spread of Yellow Fever through quarantine. Sweet Auburn boasts original millwork, including columns, archways, window casings, mantels, and door frames produced in Cincinnati and shipped down the Mississippi River.
- Monette’s doctor’s office and library sit separately on the left and right of Sweet Auburn connected by an original red brick walkway.
- Original shelving and mantels still hang in the library and doctor’s office.
- The brick used for the home was made on the property.
- Current owners were able to reconstruct the original appearance of Sweet Auburn using historic photographs.
