Bontura, also known as the Smith- Bontura- Evans House, was built in the early 1850’s for Robert Smith, a free black businessman of Natchez who ran a carriage service. Subsequently operated as an inn by Portuguese merchant Jose Bontura. Example of Greek Revival town house with unique arches in carriage house.
