SPRING PILGRIMAGE: ELMSCOURT CIRCA 1837 – 1853

Elmscourt has belonged to different branches of the same family since 1852. The furnishings and art are a collection which reflects the taste of the multiple generations who have lived at the home. Special features include a large punkah suspended from an arch in the dining room, gasoliers dating from the 1850s, and a curved staircase built in 1837.

  • Terraced gardens with heirloom flora to the rear of the house
  • Remains of 1850’s residential gas works
  • Featured in several famous movies including Raintree County and Uncle Tom’s Cabin
  • Large brick stable and carriage house
  • Seven out of ten owners, including the two women who built the home, have been women
